The Adventures of Felix the Flamingo

Based on Many True Stories

Created and Written by Grady Means
Illustrations by Ellen Clé

Coming of age is a difficult life transition for most children, but it can be particularly traumatic for many kids confused about their gender and sexual identities. Felix begins to discover that he is an unusual bird, who has lost his way. Fortunately, he stumbles across the odd and curious Gaylebird, who helps him on his personal journey to a great life. The Adventures of Felix the Flamingo is a story for all children (and many adults) to help them along, or to help them better appreciate others who may be having a more difficult, secret, often very lonely, struggle.

Author and Creator Grady Means is a writer, retired executive, and former staff member in the White House. Most importantly, he has seen many young friends go through that most difficult journey of understanding and embracing their beautiful, true selves. He is in awe of their courage and thrilled to be a part of their lives.

He and his wife Gayle spend their time enjoying family and friends, writing and reading, sailing, camping, hiking, and biking, but, most of all, just sitting around and thinking, talking, and laughing.

Illustrator Ellen Clé is a freelance illustrator living in Belgium. Art has always been her passion, holding a pencil in her hand ever since she was little. As a child, she loved to draw in her spare time and created her own comic books, which brought her imaginary world to life. She went to an art academy for a couple of years in her youth, yet she’s a self-taught artist for the most part. In 2013, she discovered digital art and instantly fell in love with it. She has been teaching herself to draw digitally ever since.

In 2019, she took her love for art a step further and started as a freelance illustrator, currently specializing in illustration and character design. She loves drawing fantasy-related subjects and art for children’s books, having illustrated a couple of Belgian children’s books to this day.
